The Decisive Moment is about the aesthetics of coincidence, and the faith to follow intuition. Cartier-Bresson likely would have dismissed an elaborate reconstruction of his book as crass and egregious. The book's physical presence and high image quality demands not only respect for the work inside, but for it to be treated as a work of art in and of itself.-Evan Paul Laudenslager " "It's immediately obvious that The Decisive Moment is a hedonistic delight, at least if your idea of hedonism is flexible enough to extend to the tactile and visual pleasure of a photography book.-Gary Cockburn "One Thousand Words "Diligently reproduced to the finest detail, Steidl seems to have resisted the urge to over embellish the new edition with unnecessary addendums. The sequencing is seamless and affecting-it is one of the most immersive experiences I have ever had with a book. The spreads are sized according to the dimensions of the framelines of Cartier-Bresson's beloved Leica camera, allowing for a single large image, two vertical images, or four smaller horizontal images to fit on each spread. At 11.5" by 15," it's actually too large for my bookshelf. From editing and sequencing to packaging, it's a masterpiece.-Pat Padua "Spectrum Culture "Reprinted to the exact specification of the original, including Henri Matisse's collage cover design, Steidl's care and craftsmanship is astounding. Henri Cartier-Bresson's iconic photography book, "The Decisive Moment," has been republished, 62 years after the highly influential collection of his early work was first released.-Aurelien Breeden "The New York Times Arts Beat "Cartier-Bresson's concept of the "decisive moment" - a split second that reveals the larger truth of a situation - shaped modern street photography and set the stage for hundreds of photojournalists to bring the world into living rooms through magazines.-James Estrin "The New York Times Online "A decisively beautiful object that belongs in the library of anyone who cares about photography. With the Python environment manager, you can open the manager view and see information on multiple Python environments located on your machine – even virtual environments not located in your workspace. While not an official Microsoft extension, we wanted to give it a shout-out to help spread the word about it! You can now inspect your Python environments and its packages with the Python Environment Manager extension! This extension is developed and maintained by Don Jayamanne, a member of our team and the creator of the Python extension. This change should impact only the local experience, and not remote debugging – attaching the debugger to remote processes running in Python 2.7 will still be supported. This is because our debugger, debugpy, will no longer Python 2.7 starting in January 2022. An update on debugging with Python 2.7įollowing up last September’s announcement on limited IntelliSense support for Python 2.7, this is the last release with support for debugging locally with Python 2.7. We’re excited for you to give this new experience a try and welcome any feedback on the Pylance issue tracker. Completions for built-ins, Pylance’s bundled stubs, locally defined symbols in the current file, and symbols in open files. Just like when using v or v, you can now take advantage of a series of editing features you might want when exploring a codebase virtually, or when inspecting the workspace locally to decide whether you’ll mark it as trusted. The Python extension now offers syntax error detection and limited IntelliSense support when using virtual or untrusted workspaces via Pylance. Rich Python editing experience when working with virtual or untrusted workspaces With this preview, you can feel even more confident in the changes that are being made to your code and still save time when refactoring. You can also change your mind after seeing what would be changed at the preview stage and discard all changes. If you want to customize the references to be updated, you can toggle check boxes at the line or file level at the preview stage before accepting the changes. Previously, when you renamed a file/module, you would have searched for references to that module in your codebase and update each location manually.Īs of this release, after renaming a Python file/module, Pylance will find all the instances that need to be updated and provide you with a preview of all the changes to be made. One of our most heavily requested features is finally here! As of this release, you can now more easily refactor your code using a new rename refactoring experience, via Pylance. If you’re interested, you can check the full list of improvements included in this release in our changelog.
Your device will access the internet from your original IP address when on the chosen apps or sites-without disconnecting the VPN from other applications, websites or IP addresses. Some apps and websites are not VPN-friendly, so PIA split-tunneling settings allow you to choose the applications and websites or IP addresses that should bypass the VPN tunnel. Using Private Internet Access VPN means you can tunnel your internet traffic through secure VPN servers. That way, you can bypass network blocks imposed by governments or ISPs, even when browsing the internet over restricted networks such as work, school and public Wi-Fi. Private Internet Access VPN’s wide variety of VPN servers across the globe allows you to choose and connect to a server from a location without restricted access. You can browse your favorite websites or applications regardless of censorship or geographic limitations. PIA allows you to access the internet without restriction. You can further optimize PIA’s strong 128-bit or 256-bit AES encryption settings to suit your personal needs. PIA uses the most secure encryption algorithms that governments, intelligence agencies and militaries use. The PIA server will assign you an IP address that obscures your location and creates a secure tunnel for transferring your internet data. They can only see that you’re connected to a VPN server they won’t see when you connect or how long you stay connected. Your data becomes unreadable to ISPs, network administrators and government censors that don’t have the key. When you connect to Private Internet Access VPN, your connection gets a unique encryption key accessible only to your device and the connected PIA server. Learn more about Private Internet Access VPN features below. Private Internet Access VPN offers a list of features, such as VPN encryption, advanced split tunneling, built-in ad blocking, a VPN router and a kill switch. Intense speculation has been sparked about both the implications of this development, and the way the US government will manage the seized Bitcoin treasure. This seizure, the largest in Bitcoin history, means that the federal government of the United States is now the owner of over three percent of the Bitcoins in circulation, and among the top Bitcoin owners in the world. People have started sending tiny payments in Bitcoins with embedded ads to the FBI’s address, ads that will remain tied to that address for as long as Bitcoin exists. It is still too exotic a financial instrument, and there is probably no legal ground or political will to do such a thing.Īmong the many surprising twists that the logic of the Bitcoin system affords is the spamming of notorious addresses like this one. It is highly unlikely that the US will decide to keep a Bitcoin reserve at this point, even one that fell onto its lap as DPR’s coins did. The FBI’s Bitcoin address is 1FfmbHfnpaZjKFvyi1okTjJJusN455paPH, and its balance and transactions can be monitored by anyone in real time simply by pasting it to Google and clicking on the first result. A user can nonetheless choose to make public his or hers Bitcoin address, which is what the FBI did. The catch is that while Bitcoin addresses are public, the system provides no information about who owns any given address. In Bitcoin, all transactions are public and it is easy to verify any movement via a web browser. When typed into a phone’s numeric pad, the number 324 spells “FBI”. The way in which the funds were transferred, in chunks of 324 Bitcoins, conveyed in itself a message: That the FBI had indeed gained control of at least one of the main Silk Road wallets. Later that day, the FBI revealed that the transactions where made by them in order to transfer the funds from DPR’s Bitcoin wallet to another one under their control. On that day, a long series of transactions, each for 324 Bitcoins and totalling over 144,000 Bitcoins was recorded in the Bitcoin public ledger. The first chapter of Silk Road’s downfall, which began with the news of Ulbricht’s capture, reached its end on October 25. As it was to be expected, law enforcement agencies were on the hunt to shut down Silk Road and to capture its notorious founder, who in the meantime, had started giving interviews to the media. Rapidly gaining global reach, Silk Road was a profitable endeavour, and DPR amassed a multi-million dollar fortune in Bitcoins. Silk Road relied on the booming Bitcoin currency to enable hard-to-trace payments between buyers and sellers. Its founder was known by the pseudonym “ Dread Pirate Roberts“, also known as DPR, and had become a sort of online ideological celebrity for radical libertarians. Silk Road allowed the trading of all sorts of illegal goods and services, from malicious software to hard drugs, through a user-friendly, Amazon-like interface. Allegedly he is the man behind Silk Road, a black market website only accessible through the Tor anonimising network. Earlier this month, the FBI announced the capture in San Francisco, of a young individual by the name of Ross Ulbricht. While neither approach is detrimental to any part of the organization, different groups and stakeholders may prefer Agile or waterfall.Īs software engineers developed it, Agile is usually favored by the technology organization. What are the Key Differences?Īgile and waterfall differ in many ways, but the most significant deltas pertain to oversight, processes, documentation, and timing. When everyone is aligned around objectives, goals, and KPIs, there’s more comfort in giving individual teams the freedom and independence to work toward achieving them rapidly. The speed and flexibility of Sprints dovetail nicely with a continuous feedback loop and ongoing experimentation and tweaking.Īnother environment where Agile can thrive is one with a clearly articulated and well-supported product strategy. While they may prefer the “sound” of rapid iteration and constant activity, they may not be comfortable with the lack of visibility and oversight required for Agile to thrive truly.Īgile works well for projects that prize learning and are seeking or refining their product-market fit. Organizationally, stakeholders must be mentally and emotionally prepared for Agile, which is likely a relatively new concept in many industries. That independence and creativity is prized in Agile, but may not be a great fit for larger or more complex initiatives. Individual teams don’t have the option to “go rogue” on their particular piece of the puzzle. It can also be easier to map out dependencies and structure the overall project plan in a waterfall setting. Development teams will be less resistant to detailed product requirements documents and design specifications since that’s what’s expected. Waterfall is particularly useful for large, complex projects with very specific and unchanging requirements. Strict adherents of Agile or waterfall might insist it’s appropriate for any situation, but in reality, different types of projects are better suited for one versus the other. Waterfall would look something like this: Comparing the Two methodologies Side by Side: They figure out the best way to allocate their resources to meet the requirements of each initiative, consulting with the Product Owner or subject matter experts from lines of business when necessary. Thus larger projects are broken down into smaller pieces so that progress can be made during each Sprint.Īside from receiving their priorities and use cases from the business, Agile product management teams are self-organizing. The goal is to deliver value to the customer or user as quickly and often as possible. This cadence dictates how much work is completed during a given period. In an Agile environment, you are divvying up work into Sprints, which are time-based bursts of activity, typically one-to-four weeks in length. It was conceived specifically as a reaction to waterfall’s perceived shortcomings. What is Agile?Īgile is the new kid on the block, relatively speaking, and prizes rapid iteration, autonomy, and flexibility. It is, however, primarily a linear process beginning with requirements and terminating in a final release or completion of the project. Moreover, all of the requirements for each step is completed before the next begins.Īlthough there are dates and schedules in a waterfall environment, each stage and project lasts until completion unless the rolling out initiative was specifically designed to be in phases comprised of multiple projects that build on one another.Ī healthy waterfall environment doesn’t employ a “throw it over the wall” mindset where stakeholders pass on responsibility to the owner of the next phase. Throughout the life of the project, there are well-defined stages with formalized hand-offs from one to the next. Waterfall is the “old school” way of managing projects. Let’s begin by covering the basics of each philosophy. That’s not to say that Agile and waterfall can’t coexist in the same organization, but for a particular project, it’s usually a “one-or-the-other” inflection point. Once you choose one path, it’s quite challenging to change course for that project, so it’s not a decision to take lightly. Understanding what these two approaches are and how they differ is important for anyone involved in product development, organizational change, program management, or almost any other kind of structured project.Īgile and waterfall often represent an irreversible fork in the road for any initiative. There’s no shortage of processes, frameworks, and philosophies when it comes to project management, but they ultimately fall into one of two camps: Agile vs. It’s pulled lawn-chair duty during multiple backyard fire-pit sessions as well. I’ve lost track of the number of baseball and soccer games I’ve watched my kids play while sitting in this chair. But for the past two months, I’ve been parking my butt exclusively in the RoadTrip Rocker. I’ve tested plenty of camp chairs: roll-up versions, the REI Co-op Flexlite Air, the Nemo Stargazer, the ENO Lounger DL, and the cheap ones you can get at big-box stores for less than $30, which usually break the first time my kids sit in them. But I don’t think a comfortable camp chair should cost as much as a car payment, which is why I’m big on GCI’s RoadTrip Rocker, a ridiculously comfortable camp chair with all the bells and whistles that costs just $80. You could easily drop $300 on a chair that’s relegated to the backyard and occasional car-camping adventure. Even though we’re living in the age of standing desks and watches that tell you to stand up every 12 minutes, I don’t think I’m alone in my love for sitting, because there are some really, really expensive camp chairs out there. I know sitting is the new smoking, but I have to speak my truth. Nathan Diller is a consumer travel reporter for USA TODAY based in Nashville.I love to sit. “Using traffic apps, local DOT notifications, and 511 services are key to minimizing holiday travel traffic frustrations this Independence Day,” Pishue said. Wednesday, July 5: Between 3 and 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 4: Between noon and 3 p.m.Thursday, June 29: Between 4 and 6 p.m. ➤ These are the best times to drive on the other days: Sunday and Monday are expected to see minimal traffic, however. “With record-breaking travelers expected on the road this holiday weekend, drivers should prepare for above-average delays to their favorite destinations,” Bob Pishue, transportation analyst at INRIX, said in the release. The transportation data and insights provider predicts drivers in major metropolitan areas like Washington, D.C., Boston and Seattle will face the worst traffic. INRIX, which works with AAA on holiday travel projections, said roads are likely to be busiest on Friday, with average travel times almost 30% higher than usual. What are the best times to drive on July 4 weekend? A predicted 3.36 million people will travel by bus, train or cruise during the holiday weekend, AAA said. “The share of air travelers in the overall holiday forecast this year is an impressive 8.2% – the highest percentage in nearly 20 years,” AAA said in the release. The organization expects 4.17 million travelers to fly, up more than 11% from 2022 and higher than the previous record of 3.91 million in 2019. AAA projects that 43.2 million people will drive, up more than 2% from 2022, when gas prices were higher. What can travelers expect during July 4 weekend?įourth of July weekend is expected to see record numbers of road trippers and air travelers alike. Many of them heeded our advice and booked early, another sign of strong travel demand.”ĪAA’s forecast defines the holiday travel period as June 30 to July 4. “What this tells us is that despite inventory being limited and some prices 50% higher, consumers are not cutting back on travel this summer. “We’ve never projected travel numbers this high for Independence Day weekend,” AAA Senior Vice President of Travel Paula Twidale said in a news release. The previous record was 49 million travelers in 2019.ĭomestic travel will rise by 2.1 million people compared with 2022 numbers, according to AAA. If you’re planning to take a trip for the Fourth of July weekend, get ready for busy airports and roads.ĪAA projects 50.7 million Americans will travel 50 miles or farther from home over the holiday weekend, marking a record high for the holiday, the membership organization said Monday. |
